BASC Press Release, 3 New BASC Council Members Elected

New BASC council members



BASC’s council has been joined by three new representatives after the results of ballots were announced at the association’s AGM.


Paul Shaw was elected as the new national member while Peter Watson was elected for the Welsh seat. Eoghan Cameron was elected unopposed for the Scottish seat.


Paul Shaw, from Derbyshire, has been involved with BASC for 19 years as a volunteer at shows, Young Shots events and ladies days. He works in the gun trade.


Peter Watson, from Denbighshire, is director of the Deer Initiative. He is a life member of the British Deer Society and a member of the Standing Conference on Countryside Sports.


Eoghan Cameron, from Aberdeenshire, is a self-employed project manager and contracts consultant. He has been shooting since the age of four and is keen on all forms of shooting, including driven partridge, walked-up grouse, wildfowling and stalking.


John Thornley OBE was co-opted to serve another year and elected by council as BASC’s vice-chairman while Mike Hardy was co-opted back onto council for a further 12 months.


John Thornley is from Derbyshire and is an author and legal consultant in countryside law, firearms and deer management. He is a former police superintendent and was awarded the OBE in 2000 for services to the protection of wildlife. He was first elected to Council in 2007.

Mike Hardy, from Angus, is a gamekeeper and shoot manager and has run a shooting business since 1986. He has been a BASC member for 19 years and is a BASC shotgun coach, sporting referee and safety officer.
