Sounds like you can offer your World Class 'Rent-a-Brolly' service which at least offers some respite for when the rain is coming down vertically instead of in the usual horizontal plane...

On a different note after a lot of chasing around the room is finally booked with myself and the good Bazza sharing a 'twin with a mountain view'. Not sure where the mounting comes into and I hope the twin has a sister who likes sharing. ..

Still onwards and upwards....

I thought you were taking your caravan.

That was the plan, unfortunately the wife has now discovered she loves caravanning more than anything so the thought of the great unwashed (myself included) descending on the caravan for a week was too much. Anyways, in the quick moving World that is mine and Bazza's chequered FT history the plan for a nice holiday cottage has gone west due to everyone snapping them up, then the B&B and so now we're under canvas in the tent just outside of Crickhowell. Luckily it's a bit bigger than my cycle-camping tent and Bazza will be slumming it in a double bed but apart from that it should be fun....

I had similar issues. My wife knows the area well and told me of a couple of good hotels, trouble was I needed to book well before I had a place.

Thinking I had plenty of time, I looked at the availability of the most favoured hotel and horror it was all but fully booked and not all with Worlds shooters. Next hotel, same, next same, ohh B*gger! I then tried several B&B's, but they were either booked or 'retiring'.

My daughter saved the day by suggesting Airbnb, and I found and booked a place a little beyond Glan Usk.

There were some grumblings that the locals had put their prices up because of the Worlds, my wife has been visiting the area and walking in the Brecons for something like 30 years, she said that 'summer' prices always stay longer in the area because of the walkers who flock there as soon as the schools go back... gotta love the power of the grey pound.

Very true, the memory is still seared on my pysche even after all these years though I think the US shooter who made up our threesome was even more traumatised by the experience...
