ADVANCE WARNING OF DOWNTIME

AirGunForum is being moved from its present hosting server to a newer, faster server commencing at approximately 5pm. (17:00GMT) on Saturday 19th August.

It will take some time for AirGunForum’s new server’s IP address to “percolate” through the network, so some confusion may well result from the changeover.

When the move has been completed, not everyone will be able to access the forum IN ITS NEW LOCATION immediately. This is because when you attempt to connect to www.airgunforum.net your ISP looks up details of the host and its server’s name in a table. It then directs you to the server’s IP address associated with that DNS (Domain Name Server). As soon as the site has been moved to its new server the registrar IP's will be changed to that of the new server. Just how soon you will see the newly located AirGunForum will depend on how frequently your ISP (Internet Service Provider) updates its tables. Some will pick it up in an hour, some in four hours, and some may take 24 hours.

This means that some members could be posting on the old server after the transfer has been made, while others may quickly be on the new server. It all depends on who you use for your ISP and how often they update their lookup tables.

If the host changes these arrangements I will amend this notice accordingly.

Apologies in advance for any problems this may cause.

It's going ahead today at 1700GMT.

After the transfer, the host will turn off the old server, so, depending on how quickly the new servers details spread through the network and how frequently your ISP refreshes its lookup table, you may get "Page Not Found" responses.

Posts made around 1700GMT may go missing if they are made AFTER the backup of the old server and before it is turned off.
