It is with the greatest sadness I have to tell you all that David Baines has passed away (today, Thursday 21st Dec.) as the result of a heart attack. My condolences (and those of the BFTA) go out to Dave’s wife Pauline and his family.
At this moment in time I am lost in my feelings I have known Dave for many years and we talk and e-mail frequently. To avoid pressure on Dave’s family please could you contact me for any shoot details etc. the BFTA web-site has been updated to re-route mails to me and I will pass on any messages to the family after a short time has passed to allow them gather their selves. Roger Moy, BFTA Chairman. |

I can't remember when I first met Dave, he was always there when I was shooting, first on the BFTA circuit and then on the UKAHFT circuit as well. He was a great character and full of help. He will be remembered in our area for his input into the HFT shoots at Plymouth Privateers and this year his input to the SWEFTA GP at Dartmoor Marksmen. He was one of life's gentlemen and a true sportsman. He will be sorely missed. My condolences go to Pauline and the family.

A sad day for Airgun shooting. I had the pleasure of talking to Dave regularly and shooting with him on occasion. A nicer man you will not meet and his energy for shooting was huge.
My condolences to Pauline and his family. Airgun shooting has lost a great gentleman that will be missed by everyone who knew him. RIP Dave. Dave. |

A very sad time for all that shot with Dave and all that knew him outside the FT circuit. A more dedicated and passionate man would be hard to find, he always had time to help or offer advice to anyone that needed it. A good friend who will be sorely missed, my thoughts are with Pauline and her family.
Rest In Peace Dave. Chris Large |

Hello everyone
I am collecting all your mesages and I will pass them on to Pauline and the family as soon as practical. Pauline has asked that The Turkey Shoot at Redfearns on Saturday 23rd go ahead as this is what Dave would have wanted. If you have any questions regarding the shoot please contact Geoff Skinner 01924 - 365953 from Redfearns who is looking after things in the short term. If one of you could put Geoff's name and number together with the basis of this message on The BBS I would appreciate it as I am not a member of the site. Best wishes, Roger Moy This post has been edited by BFTA-Chair: Fri Dec 22 2006, 20:37 |

Roger,
I've copied these details on to the Turkey Shoot thread on the BBS. I would guess that "Skipper" should actually read "Skinner". Chris |

First read about Dave's passing on the shed forum about an hour ago and it's still not sunk in.

My father, my brother (Simon) and I were deeply saddened to hear of Dave's passing. I left the sport two years ago to pursue other things but David was often talked about in those last two years and the discussions usually revolved around the awe in which we held him. Dave was my "Mentor" and taught me everything I know about shooting, and I will always remember, with immense gratitude and a smile, the man we fondly called "Old Bainsy".
I hope that someone will keep us informed of any memorial shoot that takes place. Me, Simon and Barry (my dad) will be there. ------------------ Wayne K. Hudson |
