Northern Ireland youngsters try their hand at country sports

23 February 2009……………………………………………….immediate release.

Youngsters from Northern Ireland have been trying out different countryside sports this weekend.

The activity day at Field of Dreams in Bangor, which was organised by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), gave 25 young people the opportunity to try archery, fly casting with local volunteer Andy Clapperton, air rifle shooting with Liam and Niall Mimnagh from the Hunter West Shooting School and the Marksman ST-2 shooting simulator.

BASC Northern Ireland’s Tommy Mayne said: “Field of Dreams is a superb venue and we enjoy working with its owner Maurice Brown to promote safe handling of firearms and to encourage young people to take up country sports and shooting sports in particular. The Young Shots went away from Saturday’s activities motivated and enthusiastic about country sports. There was also great support and encouragement from the parents and grandparents who attended.”

BASC NI is planning another Young Shots event in the autumn – please contact Laura on 028 9260 5050 to register your interest.

Pictures of the event are available, for more information please contact BASC Northern Ireland at amanda.mccallion@basc.org.uk.
