Main specific rules:

rifle must not be a current model
scope must not be a current model

The rifle not being current - no problem.

The scope not being current - I can see a problem here as some of the scopes that were used back along are still current models! e.g. Leupold 6.5-20 EFR.

Overall I like the sound of a classic FT shoot as even my newest rifle is about 14 years old.

I only offered it as a draft simple proposal. ....... I think it has to be a simple to understand and simple to implement rule whatever it is.

How about instead:

Any rifle and scope you use must both have been in production IN THIS GUISE ten years ago? That may be harder to "police" as whose memory would you accept for this? I took up FT just about ten years ago and I don't have any personal memories of when various items were introduced.

A one off classic event could be the answer.

Possibly with both a Ft and Hft course?

Guns must be 12+ years old? Not sure if it would be easier to list guns not allowed /allowed?.

Later in the summer, dates allowing? Give people time to sort it out?

What if you had an up to date gun like a Pro Sport or 97k,would they still be considered?After all they still have 80's/90's technology.I think if you allowed those type of rifles you'd get more people willing to take part,i would no doubt about it.All you have to do is put a scope of similar spec (Tasco 6-24X40 TR or similar) from back in the day and you've got a retro set up ready to go.If you wanted to shoot spring guns and have one of those mentioned above i don't see what the difference will be in spending a shed load of cash and trying to find a decent springer from that era when you have one already,they still look and shoot the same as back then after all.

Not for me, the whole point is the age of the gun and perhaps scope?

For AA Pcp, i would say Shamal, 100 series and Rn10. No pro target onwards.

Same for springers, old ones only.

I think it's something that needs to be looked at,personally i don't see any advantage in using a springer from this decade to one that was made in the 80/90's.Like i said if it will build interest in doing it i don't see a problem,.Obviously modern day pcp's are a different matter because of the way they are built i.e better valving etc.

think of it as a comp set in 1991-5 ish. So you cant have a modern gun, advantage or not.

why don't you ignore the scope aspect for the moment, and just think about a gun. Why not say 20 years, so any model made pre 1990 but allowing new guns, so you could buy an off the shelf 77, but not a 97. Each year the 20 year gap moves forward. Keep it simple If it flys, you can bolt it down some more.

I would not enter "classic" at a Ft gp, i prefere to try and stay in A grade using the Njr.

Would go for a once a year classic event though.
Could even host it at tondu if needs be.

I see no reason why you would not be able to have your cake and eat it so to speak pie man . after all if no prizes were offered for it . then your entrance money would cover both . the new rifle shooters will not of course qualify for classic FT . but you will qualify for both . HOWSAT ??? HOLLY

thats a point holly, i was presuming the idea was to run as a seperate Bfta comp as sporting, spring etc. along side a Gp.

I still prefere the idea of a seperate 1 day event.

classic course, so all full kills + mini eliminators at the end.

Pcp class

Not sure when Pro target came out, but that would be the cut off for me so say 1st protarget was 1996, it would be guns made until 1995.

Scopes could be any model as i dont know how many pre 1996 (for example) scopes are still about.

Make it a "Classic Gun" Comp.

Does that mean the gun only or with a scope of that generation,eg my HW77 FT gun of the 80's era with the Carl Zeiss 3-9x36 I used?

Were they? Later perhaps, but what about from the mid..1984 onwards, before and after the 40mm dias came in.

Personally i want to see classic rifles used in FT proper . IE the GPs . nothing fancy , just wanna prove to people that you do not have to spend a fortune and have the latest thing to do well in comps . rules , yes you obviously need em . but not to stringent . for instance . any rifle and scope up to 1995 . i think that covers most of the classic rifles and scopes . K.I.S.S. says the army . "keep it simple stupid" not a bad idea . but perhaps a club will take it up ??? HOLLY
PS i like the idea of 40 targets . cos it gives people a good day's shooting . and of course 40 mil targets . cos that is what most clubs have nowadays .

I don't think you can slap a date on the rifle age.

For instance, say 1995, AA = -shamal, 100, and Rn10?

But what if some Rn 10 (can be same for other manufactures) were made 1994,95,96? Who is going to have a list of serial numbers and check them, too much red tape!

I think you have to state which guns are eligible.
Same for scopes really. I have no idea when my falcon t35 or Mk4 was produced?

However, can not agree more about using them in Gp. Its nice to shoot well at a gp as I believe I have to shoot alot better to hit 30 with the Njr than I would to say hit 35 with an Ev2?

I still like the idea of a retro class /competion? Perhaps a once a year event.
Big kills (45ml+ ), targets painted as they should be and look like the shape of the plate, black & White magpies, rats with tails, rabbits with whiskers, none of these yellow /white / black joking targets!

We used to have a fella in the army who if he wanted to kill something ( not literally ) he just made it so complicated that nobody wanted to do it . how many clubs would have 50 mil targets ? nope KISS . no fancy rules . just people with od rifles and scopes who wanna shoot em . turn up with a later rifle for a shoot . yessir . but no prize . just a good shoot and get beaten by shooters with old clunkers . get a bit more wedge that way for the club . more than one way to skin a cat ??? HOLLY

It allows all the old 100 series Air Arms, the Daystate CRX series, FWB springers, sadly leaves out the HW77 (sorry Herxx) unless there has been a change in mark number. Don't know enough about Ripleys etc to comment.

I know one club with big kills, 45mm at least We use the for practise and vermin shoots.

I agree with Holly,keep it simple with not too many rules otherwise it will just be like HFT.The easiest way to decipher which equipment to use would be just use what was common back then.Daystate Huntsman's,Air Arms TM,SM,XM and NJR's,GC2's,that sort of thing.Scopes could be anything from Tasco 2-7X32,6-24X40 TR,Kassnar scopes (if you can still find any around),even Leupold 6.5-20X40 will fit the bill.Anyone that used to shoot back then will know the sort of things that will be acceptable.For this to become reality it needs proper discussion and hopefully not killed of by too many rules before it gets off the ground.

That is why the rules must be fairly loose . personally i do not care what scope shooters use . old new . dear cheap . it is the rifles that are at the heart of it . any rifle up to 95 and whatever scope you care to put on it . yes if you want to be serious , use a front focusser . barring that a MK4 or custom shop . but really does it matter . get shooters out with the guns they have in the cupboard to USE em ??? HOLLY PS i have booked in for GP one and will be warming the GC2 up shortly .

Well, have been doing the Gp since 2006, not that many granted perhaps 9 or 10 but have managed to hit 40 twice so the old guns are more than capable, as long as you have the right pellets !

2006 hey . a new boy . my old GC2 ( old , old one ) in it's only outing last year at newbury GP put in a 46 . would have been a 48 but the nut behind the trigger let it down with a target out of order and a missed 8 yarder cos i did not have a setting for it . that barrel is now on the new GC2 and after testing for exacts will be ready to rock and roll . ???
